1. California already paid for your mattress to be recycled

   California is one of four states with a mattress recycling law, and you paid into it when you bought the mattress — $18.00 per unit on every mattress and box spring sold in the state. That's what makes drop-off free: in the program's own words, "drop off your old mattress at no additional cost at participating locations". There's one of those inside Corona, listed below.

2. Buying a new mattress? The shop has to take the old one

   If you're having a new mattress delivered, California law requires your retailer to offer to take back your old mattress at no additional cost. The retailer has up to 30 days to take back your old mattress, and they can turn it down if it's a health or safety risk. Worth asking before you pay anyone — including us — to haul it away.

3. What Corona asks for if you use city pickup

   These are Waste Management's requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

   • Mattresses/box springs (wrapped and taped).
   • The collections can include up to six (6) bulk items, five (5) electronic waste (e-waste) items, and 15 universal waste (u-waste) items per pickup.
   • The Bulk Item, Electronic Waste, and Universal Waste pickup program as well as the Used Oil and Oil Filter Collection program are required to be scheduled at least 48 hours before your service day.
   • Couches, mattresses/box springs (wrapped and taped), refrigerators, washers, dryers, and household electronics. are on the accepted list, so the mattress itself is not the problem — the booking is.
   • On what they won't take at the curb: carparts, construction debris, hazardous waste (paint, cleaners, chemicals), oversized/heavy items, and tires.
