2. Buying a new mattress? The shop has to take the old one

   If you're having a new mattress delivered, California law requires your retailer to offer to take back your old mattress at no additional cost. The retailer has up to 30 days to take back your old mattress, and they can turn it down if it's a health or safety risk. Worth asking before you pay anyone — including us — to haul it away.

3. What Fullerton asks for if you use city pickup

   These are Republic Services' requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

   • Furniture and old appliances are among the most common items illegally dumped along roadways, in parks and on vacant lots.
   • You have to book it first — they need to know at least 24 hours before your regular collection day.

4. Can you take a mattress to the landfill near Fullerton?
