2. Buying a new mattress? The shop has to take the old one

   If you're having a new mattress delivered, California law requires your retailer to offer to take back your old mattress at no additional cost. The retailer has up to 30 days to take back your old mattress, and they can turn it down if it's a health or safety risk. Worth asking before you pay anyone — including us — to haul it away.

3. What Garden Grove asks for if you use city pickup

   These are Republic Services' requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

   • Be ready to provide a detailed description of the items.
   • You get up to 10 items per pickup per address.
   • Their accepted list is bulky items include large, hard to handle items, such as furniture, appliances, computers, computer monitors, electronic waste, and extra yard waste. — it doesn't name mattresses either way, so ask before you put one out.

4. Can you take a mattress to the landfill near Garden Grove?

   Olinda Alpha Landfill in Brea is the nearest landfill, but its page doesn't say whether it takes mattresses — its gate rate is fees will apply if mattresses and box springs are brought in with other items. Call before you load up. Additional fee for hard-to-handle items longer than six feet (examples: pieces of wood, furniture, mattresses, etc.) $15.00. Either way you need a truck and the drive out to Brea, and a pickup from us is $89 and comes to you.
