Mattress removal in Lancaster, CA

Booking takes about a minute. Pick your items and a pickup day, put the mattress out that morning, and we'll load it and take it away. Most of our Lancaster pickups are curbside, so there's nothing to wrap and no trip to make.

From there it goes to our local recycling facility, where our team takes it apart by hand. The foam gets baled for carpet padding, the steel springs go to scrap processors, and box-spring wood gets chipped. Here's the whole process if you want to see it.

Lancaster and California mattress disposal rules

Booking with us? You can skip this part. Everything below is for handling it yourself — Lancaster's rules, the fees and the drop-off options. If we're doing the pickup, the regulations and the recycling are ours to deal with: you leave it at the curb and we take it from there.

  1. California already paid for your mattress to be recycled

California is one of four states with a mattress recycling law, and you paid into it when you bought the mattress — $18.00 per unit on every mattress and box spring sold in the state. That's what makes drop-off free: in the program's own words, "drop off your old mattress at no additional cost at participating locations". There are 2 of those inside Lancaster, listed below.

  2. Buying a new mattress? The shop has to take the old one

If you're having a new mattress delivered, California law requires your retailer to offer to take back your old mattress at no additional cost. The retailer has up to 30 days to take back your old mattress, and they can turn it down if it's a health or safety risk. Worth asking before you pay anyone — including us — to haul it away.

  3. What Lancaster asks for if you use city pickup

These are WM's requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

    • You get up to four (4) items each per address.
    • You have to book it first — they need to know at least 48 hours in advance of your regular service day.
    • Furniture such as chairs, mattresses are on the accepted list, so the mattress itself is not the problem — the booking is.
    • Some things they won't take at the curb at all, including household hazardous waste such as paint, oil and batteries, spas, pianos, camper shells, and items requiring more than two persons to safely handle.
