2. Buying a new mattress? The shop has to take the old one

   If you're having a new mattress delivered, California law requires your retailer to offer to take back your old mattress at no additional cost. The retailer has up to 30 days to take back your old mattress, and they can turn it down if it's a health or safety risk. Worth asking before you pay anyone — including us — to haul it away.

3. What Rancho Cucamonga asks for if you use city pickup

   These are Burrtec Waste Industries, Inc.'s requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

   • Please place items out the night before or no later than 6:00 a.m. on the day of collection.
   • You get maximum of 5 items per collection per address.
   • Please call at least 24 hours in advance to schedule your bulky item pick-up.
   • Large or bulky items include: scrap metal, wood, old appliances, furniture, televisions, computer monitors, refrigerator or freezer, tied & bundled tree branches, mattresses, etc. are on the accepted list, so the mattress itself is not the problem — the booking is.
