Mattress removal in Bonita, CA

Booking takes about a minute. Pick your items and a pickup day, put the mattress out that morning, and we'll load it and take it away. Most of our Bonita pickups are curbside, so there's nothing to wrap and no trip to make.

From there it goes to our local recycling facility, where our team takes it apart by hand. The foam gets baled for carpet padding, the steel springs go to scrap processors, and box-spring wood gets chipped. Here's the whole process if you want to see it.

Bonita and California mattress disposal rules

Booking with us? You can skip this part. Everything below is for handling it yourself — Bonita's rules, the fees and the drop-off options. If we're doing the pickup, the regulations and the recycling are ours to deal with: you leave it at the curb and we take it from there.

  1. California already paid for your mattress to be recycled

California is one of four states with a mattress recycling law, and you paid into it when you bought the mattress — $18.00 per unit on every mattress and box spring sold in the state. That's what makes drop-off free: in the program's own words, "drop off your old mattress at no additional cost at participating locations".

  2. Buying a new mattress? The shop has to take the old one

If you're having a new mattress delivered, California law requires your retailer to offer to take back your old mattress at no additional cost. The retailer has up to 30 days to take back your old mattress, and they can turn it down if it's a health or safety risk. Worth asking before you pay anyone — including us — to haul it away.

  3. What Bonita asks for if you use city pickup

These are EDCO's requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

    • On your appointed bulky item collection day, set out your item at the curb or the end of your driveway by 6:00 a.m.
    • Limited to three items.
    • Their accepted list is Furniture Scrap metal Stoves Refrigerators Air conditioners Microwave ovens Water heaters One television or computer monitor — it doesn't name mattresses either way, so ask before you put one out.
    • Some things they won't take at the curb at all, including tires dirt concrete asphalt.
