2. Buying a new mattress? The shop has to take the old one

   If you're having a new mattress delivered, California law requires your retailer to offer to take back your old mattress at no additional cost. The retailer has up to 30 days to take back your old mattress, and they can turn it down if it's a health or safety risk. Worth asking before you pay anyone — including us — to haul it away.

3. What Escondido asks for if you use city pickup

   These are Escondido Disposal Inc.'s requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

   • Mattresses (please wrap prior to setting out - special mattress disposal bags can be purchased at hardware stores, i.e. Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc.).
   • Contact EDI at least a week before your regular collection day.
