The retailer has up to 30 days to take back your old mattress, and they can turn it down if it's a health or safety risk. Worth asking before you pay anyone — including us — to haul it away.

These are Alameda County Industries' requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.
- Please contain (bag, box, or bundle) loose/small/multiple items.
- Place items curbside or at the arranged collection location* by 6am on the scheduled pickup day.
- Where to put it: please do not block street or sidewalk access.
- Collection of up to 3 cubic yards (3′ x 3′ x 9′) of materials and up to 3 large bulky items (up to 150 lbs. each) per set out.
- Do not set items out more than 24-hours in advance.
- Up to three (3) large bulky items such as appliances, mattresses, and furniture (up to 150 lbs. each) will be collected. are on the accepted list, so the mattress itself is not the problem — the booking is.
- On what they won't take at the curb: abandoned automobiles, tires, or any single item (e.g. large auto parts, etc.) that exceeds 150 lbs. in weight.
