Mattress removal in Richmond, CA

Booking takes about a minute. Pick your items and a pickup day, put the mattress out that morning, and we'll load it and take it away. Most of our Richmond pickups are curbside, so there's nothing to wrap and no trip to make.

From there it goes to our local recycling facility, where our team takes it apart by hand. The foam gets baled for carpet padding, the steel springs go to scrap processors, and box-spring wood gets chipped. Here's the whole process if you want to see it.

How it works

  1. Book online.

Pick your items and a pickup day. Takes about a minute, and you see the price before you confirm.

  2. Put it at the curb.

  3. We arrive.

Our team shows up in your window and texts you when they're about thirty minutes out.

  4. We recycle it.

Your mattress goes to our local recycling facility and gets taken apart by hand. You'll get a confirmation once it's done.

Richmond and California mattress disposal rules

Booking with us? You can skip this part. Everything below is for handling it yourself — Richmond's rules, the fees and the drop-off options. If we're doing the pickup, the regulations and the recycling are ours to deal with: you leave it at the curb and we take it from there.

  1. California already paid for your mattress to be recycled

California is one of four states with a mattress recycling law, and you paid into it when you bought the mattress — $18.00 per unit on every mattress and box spring sold in the state. That's what makes drop-off free: in the program's own words, "drop off your old mattress at no additional cost at participating locations". There's one of those inside Richmond, listed below.

Mattress Recycling Council — California · the California recycling fee

  2. Buying a new mattress? The shop has to take the old one

If you're having a new mattress delivered, California law requires your retailer to offer to take back your old mattress at no additional cost. The retailer has up to 30 days to take back your old mattress, and they can turn it down if it's a health or safety risk. Worth asking before you pay anyone — including us — to haul it away.

  3. What Richmond asks for if you use city pickup

These are Republic Services' requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

    • Call the illegal dumping hotline at 510.965.4905.
    • You have to book it first — they need to know when called in at least 10 workdays in advance.
    • Mattresses/box springs are on the accepted list, so the mattress itself is not the problem — the booking is.
    • On what they won't take at the curb: no single item that cannot be handled by two workers will be accepted.
