Mattress removal in Athens, GA

Booking takes about a minute. Pick your items and a pickup day, put the mattress out that morning, and we'll load it and take it away. Most of our Athens pickups are curbside, so there's nothing to wrap and no trip to make.

From there it goes to our local recycling facility, where our team takes it apart by hand. The foam gets baled for carpet padding, the steel springs go to scrap processors, and box-spring wood gets chipped. Here's the whole process if you want to see it.

Athens and Georgia mattress disposal rules

Booking with us? You can skip this part. Everything below is for handling it yourself — Athens's rules, the fees and the drop-off options. If we're doing the pickup, the regulations and the recycling are ours to deal with: you leave it at the curb and we take it from there.

  1. What Athens asks for if you use city pickup

These are Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department's requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

    • Separate metal items from other bulky waste. Scrap metal will be recycled if stacked separately from other bulky waste.
    • Bulky waste items should be placed between the curb and sidewalk and should not hinder pedestrian traffic.
    • Where to put it: bulky waste items must not be stacked closer than fifty (50) feet from an intersection or within ten (10) feet of any fire hydrant.
    • You get Up to 5 items per scheduled pick-up. With 4 pickups each year. For a total of 20 items per year. per address.
    • Funded through property taxes the program aims to cut down on illegal dumping, which costs the county over $1 million annually.
    • Items must be placed neatly on the curb no earlier than 24 hours before collection date and by 7:00 AM of the pick-up day.
    • Mattresses and box springs (headboards and bed frames) are on the accepted list, so the mattress itself is not the problem — the booking is.
    • On what they won't take at the curb: bulky waste does NOT include bagged trash, batteries, construction and demolition debris (including pallets), dead animals, hazardous materials, automotive components, liquids, tires, or leaf and limb material.
