Booking with us? You can skip this part. Everything below is for handling it yourself — Evanston's rules, the fees and the drop-off options. If we're doing the pickup, the regulations and the recycling are ours to deal with: you leave it at the curb and we take it from there.

  1. What Evanston asks for if you use city pickup

    These are City of Evanston's requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

    • All material should be placed out in an orderly fashion, i.e., bagged, contained, or bundled, with no loose garbage.
    • All material must be out by 7 a.m. on the scheduled day; City crews will not return for late set-outs.
    • Where to put it: Special Pickup waste must be placed on the alley line or parkway. Crews will not remove items from private property.
    • Crews will only remove bulk items; no garbage carts will be emptied.
    • 6 cubic yards ~ one mattress and box spring, or 25 medium garbage bags.
    • On what they won't take at the curb: remember that the City is not equipped to collect and does not collect construction debris or hazardous materials.

Open Mon 6-10 AM and 2-3:30 PM Tue 6-10 AM and 2-3:30 PM Wed 6-10 AM and 2-3:30 PM Thu 6-10 AM and 2-3:30 PM Fri 6-10 AM and 2-3:30 PM and Sat 6 AM - 12 PM Sun CLOSED. Limit: Vehicles with a total length of 24 feet or greater (single-unit truck or truck/trailer combination) may be refused access at any time if unloading space is unavailable. The facility is extremely busy weekdays between 10 am and 2 pm and is CLOSED to residents and contractors during this time. Minimum charge Commercial and Residential Waste $100.00 per ton ($25.00 minimum for 500lb. or less). Note that you will be required to unload your own vehicle. What City of Evanston says about collection

There are limits to the number of special pickups that can be scheduled each day, but staff run special pickup requests multiple times a week. Please call/text the Public Works Agency at 847-448-4311 to request a special pick-up. City Council approved a three-year pilot where a $1 per unit per month fee is applied to the water bills of residential and condo customers of the City. It does name mattresses.
