Mattress removal in Brookline, MA

Booking takes about a minute. Pick your items and a pickup day, put the mattress out that morning, and we'll load it and take it away. Most of our Brookline pickups are curbside, so there's nothing to wrap and no trip to make.

From there it goes to our local recycling facility, where our team takes it apart by hand. The foam gets baled for carpet padding, the steel springs go to scrap processors, and box-spring wood gets chipped. Here's the whole process if you want to see it.

Brookline and Massachusetts mattress disposal rules

Booking with us? You can skip this part. Everything below is for handling it yourself — Brookline's rules, the fees and the drop-off options. If we're doing the pickup, the regulations and the recycling are ours to deal with: you leave it at the curb and we take it from there.

  1. What Brookline asks for if you use city pickup

These are Department of Public Works' requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

    • Mattresses and box springs must be recycled to comply with MassDEP regulations.
    • Trash and Recycling carts may not be placed out for collection before 3:30pm the day before collection and NO LATER than 7am on collection day. This includes all bulk items, purple overflow bags, and textile recycling bags.
    • You get up to four (4) bulky, metal, white goods, and/or mattress items per week per address.
    • Illegal dumping of any materials in Brookline results in an instant fine!.
    • Bulky item pickups must be scheduled one week in advance, and paid for before pickup.
    • Bulky and metal items typically classify as a piece of furniture or an appliance. This includes couches, white goods, stoves, refrigerators, air conditioners, CRTs, TVs, etc. are on the accepted list, so the mattress itself is not the problem — the booking is.
    • On what they won't take at the curb: construction/remodel material, car parts, gym equipment, pianos, etc.
