Mattress removal in St. Cloud, MN

Booking takes about a minute. Pick your items and a pickup day, put the mattress out that morning, and we'll load it and take it away. Most of our St. Cloud pickups are curbside, so there's nothing to wrap and no trip to make.

From there it goes to our local recycling facility, where our team takes it apart by hand. The foam gets baled for carpet padding, the steel springs go to scrap processors, and box-spring wood gets chipped. Here's the whole process if you want to see it.

St. Cloud and Minnesota mattress disposal rules

Booking with us? You can skip this part. Everything below is for handling it yourself — St. Cloud's rules, the fees and the drop-off options. If we're doing the pickup, the regulations and the recycling are ours to deal with: you leave it at the curb and we take it from there.

  1. What St. Cloud asks for if you use city pickup

These are Public Works Department's requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

    • All small items must be contained in bags, boxes or bundles not to exceed 50 pounds in weight.
    • Items should be bagged, boxed or bundled and stacked neatly and placed at your regular garbage pickup location by 6 a.m. the day of the scheduled pickup.
    • Specials are limited to 5 cubic yards.
    • You must call at least one day in advance to schedule a special pickup.
    • Mattresses and box springs are on the accepted list, so the mattress itself is not the problem — the booking is.
    • On what they won't take at the curb: state law prohibits the city from picking up the following items: Batteries Construction materials (ceiling tiles, concrete, decking, pallets, shingles, siding, treated wood, etc.).

  2. Can you take a mattress to the landfill near St. Cloud?

You can, but check the price first — it is usually more than a pickup costs. Tom Kraemer, Inc. in Cold Spring does take mattresses — costs vary by item, call for details. Small landfill loads, or loads hauled in without a dump tailer may be required to be unloaded by hand in our yard. Either way you need a truck and the drive out to Cold Spring, and a pickup from us is $89 and comes to you.

What Public Works Department says about collection

Special pickups will be scheduled on the same day as your weekly garbage pickup. Requests must be called into the Public Work Department at 320-650-2900 during regular business hours. The fee for mattress disposal will be $35 plus tax per mattress of any size. This fee includes one box spring. The fee for mattress disposal will be in addition to the special pickup fee if additional items are picked up. It does name mattresses.
