Mattress removal in Upper Arlington, OH

Booking takes about a minute. Pick your items and a pickup day, put the mattress out that morning, and we'll load it and take it away. Most of our Upper Arlington pickups are curbside, so there's nothing to wrap and no trip to make.

From there it goes to our local recycling facility, where our team takes it apart by hand. The foam gets baled for carpet padding, the steel springs go to scrap processors, and box-spring wood gets chipped. Here's the whole process if you want to see it.

Upper Arlington and Ohio mattress disposal rules

Booking with us? You can skip this part. Everything below is for handling it yourself — Upper Arlington's rules, the fees and the drop-off options. If we're doing the pickup, the regulations and the recycling are ours to deal with: you leave it at the curb and we take it from there.

  1. What Upper Arlington asks for if you use city pickup

These are Local Waste Services' requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

    • Mattresses, box springs and all upholstered items must be wrapped in plastic for pick-up.
    • Place all items for disposal at the curb between 6 pm the night before and 7 am on the day of your regularly scheduled collection day.

The city's own pages disagree on this one. One says for questions about what items are accepted, please contact Local Waste Services at 614-409-9375 (option 2) or visit our bulk item info page for more information; the City of Upper Arlington's Bulk Items page says to schedule collection or inquire about charges, please contact Local Waste Services at 614-583-5370. 2. Can you take a mattress to the landfill near Upper Arlington?

Franklin County Sanitary Landfill in Grove City is the nearest landfill, but its page doesn't say whether it takes mattresses — its gate rate is $39.75 per ton (Direct-Haul, In-District Solid Waste). Call before you load up. All trucks and trailer loads must be fully tarped before entering any SWACO disposal facility. Either way you need a truck and the drive out to Grove City, and a pickup from us is $89 and comes to you.
