1. Oregon already paid for your mattress to be recycled

   Oregon is one of four states with a mattress recycling law, and you paid into it when you bought the mattress — $22.50 per unit on every mattress and box spring sold in the state. That's what makes drop-off free: in the program's own words, "mattresses and box springs in any condition, no matter when purchased, can be dropped off for free at a participating collection site or event".

2. Buying a new mattress? Ask the shop to take the old one

   When your new mattress is delivered, ask your retailer if they will take back your old one — this may be provided at little to no charge depending on the retailer's policies. Unlike California, Oregon doesn't require them to, so it's worth asking before you pay anyone — including us — to haul it away.

3. What Lake Oswego asks for if you use city pickup

   These are Republic Services' requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

   • Other Materials may not be set out by the Customer more than twenty-four (24) hours prior to Service.
   • The location must not obstruct mailboxes, water meters, sidewalks, fire hydrants, or driveways; must not be within bicycle lanes; and must not be in a location that impedes traffic flow.
   • Pick Up Fee is applied as a flat rate regardless of the number of items for disposal.
   • The Service time for Other Materials shall be as agreed by the Franchisee and the Customer and within seven (7) working days of the Customer Request.
   • Furniture/Mattresses - check local donation options or schedule a bulky waste pick up with Republic Services are on the accepted list, so the mattress itself is not the problem — the booking is.
