What State College asks for if you use city pickup
These are State College Borough's requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.
- Items must be ready for collection by 6 am on the collection day and should not be put out more than 48 hours prior to collection.
- Bulk items must be placed at the curb or, if your usual refuse collection point is a dumpster, by the dumpster.
- No more than three bulk items should be placed for collection at one time.
- Requests should be made by 5 pm on Sunday for collection on Monday.
- Their accepted list is bulk refuse is limited to items typically generated by an ordinary household. Refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, furniture, and similar items will be collected. — it doesn't name mattresses either way, so ask before you put one out.
- On what they won't take at the curb: building materials, tree limbs, or any parts of which weigh over 40 pounds or are too large to handle are not collected.

The collection begins on Monday of each week, unless canceled by a Monday holiday, and will continue until all requested stops are served. Residents may schedule an appointment for the collection of bulk refuse (i.e. riff-raff, scrap) by submitting a Bulk Refuse Pickup Form or by calling 814-234-7135, during business hours (M-F 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Their page doesn't say whether a mattress counts as an accepted item, so check before you put one out.
