What Tyler asks for if you use city pickup
These are Tyler Solid Waste's requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.
- Create separate piles for household bulk waste and bulk brush.
- Place bulky items at the curb, then request your bulky waste collection.
- Where to put it: leave a minimum of two feet between the piles.
- Bulky item pick-up is limited to 6 to 8 cubic yards. There is an extra charge for larger piles.
- Any property put out at the curb line, such as furniture, clothing, and appliances, requires notification to the Solid Waste Office as per City Ordinance Sec. 16-4.
- Their accepted list is bulky items include furniture, appliances, carpet and fencing material, old toys, and other large items. — it doesn't name mattresses either way, so ask before you put one out.
- Bulk brush, limbs, tree stumps and more than 25 leaf bags, are considered a special pick-up.
- On what they won't take at the curb: bulk brush and tires are not included in the free bulky item pick-up; these items require a special collection.

12920 Farm to Market Road 2767. Other customers may use the landfill, but will need to pay the gate rate to dump there. Open Monday - Friday: 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday: 6:30 a.m. to Noon. Call (903) 566-5007 before you load up. A current utility bill is required for landfill use. Note that state law requires loads of garbage be covered during trips to the landfill. You'll need a truck or a van, and you do the loading.
Haul it to Downtown Recycle Center
418 N. Bois D'Arc Ave. Furniture/mattress: Small fee. Open Monday through Friday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday: 8 a.m. to noon. The facility is a free, self-service drop-off center open six days a week and available to anyone in the East Texas Region. Note that please separate the materials you bring to the Recycling Center. You'll need a truck or a van, and you do the loading.
What Tyler Solid Waste says about collection
Pick-ups will occur within five business days after a request is made. To place a Bulky Item or Special Pick-Up request, please fill out the online Bulky Item Pickup form. Each residential household that receives curbside collection services can request two bulky waste pick-ups each calendar year at no charge. Their page doesn't say whether a mattress counts as an accepted item, so check before you put one out.
