Mattress removal in Wheeling, WV

Booking takes about a minute. Pick your items and a pickup day, put the mattress out that morning, and we'll load it and take it away. Most of our Wheeling pickups are curbside, so there's nothing to wrap and no trip to make.

From there it goes to our local recycling facility, where our team takes it apart by hand. The foam gets baled for carpet padding, the steel springs go to scrap processors, and box-spring wood gets chipped. Here's the whole process if you want to see it.

How it works

  3. We arrive.

Wheeling and West Virginia mattress disposal rules

Booking with us? You can skip this part. Everything below is for handling it yourself — Wheeling's rules, the fees and the drop-off options. If we're doing the pickup, the regulations and the recycling are ours to deal with: you leave it at the curb and we take it from there.

  1. What Wheeling asks for if you use city pickup

These are City of Wheeling Sanitation Division's requirements, not ours — they apply if you're putting the mattress out for the city rather than booking a pickup with us.

    • All trash must be placed in bags for collection.
    • Trash and recycling should NOT be put out into the alley or on a street until the day before collection.
    • Where to put it: garbage/rubbish to be collected in a box or bundle should measure no more than 4 feet long by 2 feet wide.
    • Place one large item out per week.
    • Items such as tires, oils, paints and other hazardous waste will not be collected by sanitation workers.
    • Each individual container or box/bundle shall weigh no more than 50 pounds.
    • On what they won't take at the curb: building materials (i.e. carpet, wood, paint, drywall, shingles, plaster, concrete, oils, batteries, tires, etc.).

The city's own pages disagree on this one. One says each individual container or box/bundle shall weigh no more than 50 pounds; City of Wheeling Sanitation Division says containers, boxes, or bundles exceeding 40 pounds. Worth the phone call before you put it out. the second page

  2. Can you take a mattress to the landfill near Wheeling?

Short Creek Landfill in Ohio County is the nearest landfill, but its page doesn't say whether it takes mattresses. Call before you load up. Either way you need a truck and the drive out to Ohio County, and a pickup from us is $89 and comes to you.
